Busy week means less blogging

This past week has been very busy.  Not unusual, just filled to the brim with lots of things going on.  I could go through them all.  Honestly, though, I'm glad the week is coming to a close, and would like to forget them.  I'm glad it's Friday.  As for the weekend, it's not really slowing down.  It's just a different kind of busy.  Here's what is on tap:

  • Parents are coming for a quick visit (I think they're coming just to see the kids.  Ha!!)
  • 2 soccer games tomorrow in Leakesville.  They will be tough ones.
  • Micah has a bible drill study party/skating party to go to tomorrow afternoon.
  • I think we're going to try and clean up some in the yard.
  • And….oh yeah….I'm preaching twice Sunday, as well as teaching DT.  I'm really looking forward to the preaching and teaching, but it does make for a VERY busy Sunday.

One of the best…

Last night at church, we had what I would call one of the best moments in the life of a church.   We commissioned Brian, Felicia, Sklar, and Sydney Henderson as missionaries to Peru.  Wow!!  I don't think many realize the enormity of something like this.  It is not only a milestone, but a testimony to the working of God's grace in the life of this family.  For our church, it represented someone stepping up and going out…..like we are supposed to do.

If you missed last night, you missed one of the biggest blessings in a lifetime.  My heart is heavy, and also full of joy at the same time.  I will miss my friends who have become close over the past year.  At the same time, I am already making plans to GO and take part in their work in Peru.  What a blessing this will be!!  Thank God for the Hendersons!!

Go State!! …and other ramblings.

Miss. State is in the NCAA tourney.  They won 4 games in 4 days to take the SEC tourney championship, and receive an automatic bid to the Big Dance!!  We play the Univ. of Washington Huskies on Thursday.  This team is coming together at the right time.

I taught the 2nd week of "The Lord's Table" in DT this past Sunday.  I have to say that I am REALLY looking forward to the Lord's Supper this time.  I believe that we have brought the Lord's Supper to the forefront through the preaching on Sunday nights, as well as the DT time spent as individuals prepare themselves personally for this time on April 5th.  I am so excited that we focused our time on this.

I have a pretty full week of preparation ahead…along with other meetings and events.  Pray for our staff as we fulfill all God has called us to.  We have a great honor of serving Jesus through this church!!

A wet Saturday….and soccer update.

It finally started raining this afternoon.  After expecting it since yesterday, it seemed like it wasn't going to rain here.

This morning:  We won our soccer game 14-1.  Our boys played great!!  I was excited for them.  Micah scored 6 goals.  It sprinkled just a little in the game, but nothing much at all.  We play a double-header next weekend in Leakesville.  We'll be fortunate to win one b/c of playing two in one day.  It's tough on those little guys.

Friday update

Soccer Update:  We tied last night 2-2 in a makeup game.  Our boys did NOT play well at all.  No hustle.  No running to the ball.  No intensity.  No passing.  I'm glad that we were able to tie after horrible play, but I was not a happy coach.  So unhappy that I made them run 3 laps AFTER the game.  Anyway, hopefully they'll be ready tomorrow morning….if we don't get rained out.

Today…we're going clothes and shoe shopping for the kids.  Micah has to have new shoes and some school shorts.  Malaree needs a few things too.  We'll be back home later, just in case we're needed as a reserve host home for DNOW this weekend.

It was nice to not have to set an alarm clock this morning.  Even though I didn't sleep late, it was nice to wake up without a horrible sound in my ear.

A night of training

Tonight, I had a video training meeting.  We video our worship times at Agricola.  The responsibility to edit and produce the DVDs has traditionally been the worship pastor's job.  Since Neil has left, that (along with putting all the words in for our worship services) has fallen to me.  It is VERY time consuming, and has taken away from time that is better spent doing other things.  Alas, tonight was the beginning of passing this on to others who are gifted, and will be given the opportunity to serve.  We should have at least 6 people trained to help with this by the end of next week.

I am excited about this, because this is allowing people who "know how" to do something and put their gifts to work.  It's nice to know that people are willing to step up and be a part of this ministry!!

Sunday summary

Today has been a good day.  A very busy one too!!  We started the morning off early by losing an hour of sleep.  Then, we had a deacons' meeting at 8 AM, followed by S.S. and worship.  We ate lunch with a ladies' S.S. class.  Then at 2:30, Melanie hosted a baby shower here at our house for our friend Deanna.  I think they had a great time.  I was in the back with the kids.

I went back to the church at 4 to finish up for my DT class.  I began a 3-4 week series in DT on the Lord's Supper tonight at 5.  Worship at 6.  Now…it's 7:51 and darkness is just now setting in.  I love the longer days, but not quite so much the busy ones.

Overall, it's been a great day to worship!!

Take me out to the ballgame…

I made my debut last night as the PA announcer for the George County Rebels baseball team.  Understand, that this isn't a full-time deal.  Matter of fact, it's hardly part-time.  I was only able to commit to 5 of 10 home baseball games this year.  I told them if they found someone who could do all of them, that would be better.  As for my debut, everything went well.  I had a great time announcing and enjoying some baseball.  One of our students from the church hit a grand slam in the Junior Varsity game!!  Great shot Tyler!!

Soccer Update for today:  The Gators won 11-0 this morning to carry their record to 4-0 on the season.  Micah scored 4 goals in the win.  We have a make-up game this Thursday night.
